Thelma Goldberg is proud to announce the return of the Tom and Catherine Larkin Youth Ballroom Program. Since 1997, this program has offered ballroom classes to middle and high school students in the Lexington area. This year's program will be dedicated to the memory of Thomas J. Larkin. As Tom frequently said, "I started dancing in high school and I didn't stop until I was 92. Dancing kept me young and was the way in which I socialized and exercised." The Youth Ballroom Program is dedicated to passing on the rich traditions and joys of partner dancing to future generations. This year's program will be offered in Lexington center and is open to all local residents. More information will be posted when it becomes available. A committee is being formed. If you would like to volunteer to help with this worthwhile and fun project, please contact Thelma Goldberg at tgoldberg@thedanceinn.com. Founded in 1997, this program offers Lexington middle and high school students the opportunity to study ballroom dance with some of New England's finest dance educators, including Bob Thomas, Cornell Coley, and others. Students learn swing, fox trot, and waltz at a series of early winter classes that culminate in a gala Valentine Dinner Dance. Classes promote fitness, coordination, and grace, and provide participants with a skill that can be cultivated over a lifetime. The Valentine Dance enables young participants to demonstrate what they've learned as well as to experience and appreciate social dancing in an intergenerational context. Support of this programming is provided, in part, by local businesses and individual donations.
